Fall Harvest – Apples – Salad

September 22, 2010 No Comments

Apples and salads are a match made in…

…well, a very nice place indeed.

Nice crisp slices on the side, diced up morsels mixed with langostino, walnuts, garden peas, bell pepper, celery, lettuce and cherry tomatoes.

Fallen apples are one of the few fruits that can be eaten as a windfall crop without washing – that is, if the orchard has been fenced off from the attention of farm animals. To be on the safe side, submerge in salted vinegar water. This will kill worms and most molds.

Apples have historically been picked from the tree, but shake harvesting techniques have been developed that are much safer for the orchard workers.
