Why the options for butter, sugar & whiskey?

Less butter and more sugar raises the melting point, so it doesn't need refrigeration.

More whiskey makes it easier to dissolve the sugar, as well as
give more of a buzz.

Concerned about calories? More butter is better for wintertime outdoor activities. More sugar/less butter is better for summer.

Butter - 7.2 kcal/gm    80 proof whiskey - 2.3 kcal/gm
Sugar - 3.9 kcal/gm    Chocolate chips 5.0 kcal/gm

So, halving the butter and doubling the sugar will reduce the calories a little bit, but we're still talking about something in the range of 140 to 160 calories/oz. or 4.5 to 5.5 kcal/gm.
